What The Lasting Home is

The Lasting Home is an editorial site covering the home — furniture, bedroom, bathroom, outdoor, storage, and decor. Our goal is straightforward: help you find products that actually last, and help you avoid the ones that don’t.

We’re not a retailer. We don’t sell products. What we publish are research-based guides written by editors who read owner reviews carefully, compare specifications honestly, and call out the gap between what catalogs claim and what people actually report after a year of use.

How we evaluate

Each guide on thelastinghome.com follows the same evaluation framework. We:

  1. Define the criteria that actually matter for the category — material grade, weight capacity, dimensions, durability standards, warranty terms — and explain what each criterion means in practice.
  2. Source candidate products from current retailer listings, weighting toward products with verifiable specs and substantial owner review history.
  3. Cross-reference owner reports from Amazon reviews, Wirecutter, Apartment Therapy, Sleep Foundation, and the relevant subreddits — looking specifically for the failure modes and complaints that repeat across multiple owners.
  4. Cite the standards we use: BIFMA, CertiPUR-US, GREENGUARD, FSC, OEKO-TEX, ASTM — whichever apply to the category.
  5. Differentiate the picks by use case so you can match a product to your actual situation rather than a generic “best overall” label.

We do not lab-test products ourselves. We aggregate, analyze, and explain. Where we lack the expertise to make a specific call (medical claims, electrical work, structural modifications), we say so and direct you to the right professional.

Editorial independence

We participate in the Amazon Associates Program and a small number of other retailer affiliate programs. When you click a product link and buy, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Affiliate revenue funds the research time these guides require.

Commission rates do not influence our recommendations. We do not accept payment from manufacturers in exchange for favorable coverage. We do not publish sponsored posts disguised as editorial content. When a product is added to or removed from our recommendations, the reason is documented in our editorial workflow — not in our revenue dashboard.

Editorial team

Four writers produce everything published here today. Each owns a beat, and the byline on an article is the person who made its calls.

Lauren Ro — Furniture buying guides

Lauren covers case goods, seating, desks, bookcases, and patio furniture. She judges a piece on the specs that predict how it ages: frame joinery, foam density, and load ratings, checked against BIFMA and FSC certifications alongside aggregated owner reports.

Erin Schwartz — Decor and styling

Erin covers wall art, vases, lighting, curtains, rugs, storage, and small-space layout. Her bias is toward what works in a room somebody actually lives in, weighing scale and materials against Apartment Therapy and Wirecutter coverage rather than styling for a photograph.

Jessica Cherner — Reviews and comparisons

Jessica handles review and versus coverage, plus brand-name questions. She works through construction specs, warranty terms, and long-term owner reports to separate what a listing claims from what buyers report a year in.

Heather Adams — Sofas, tables, mattresses, bedding

Heather covers the materials layer: foam density, coil gauge, frame construction, and fiber content, measured against CertiPUR-US, OEKO-TEX, and BIFMA standards.

Articles published before August 2026 carry the bylines of five earlier contributors — Hannah Lin, Maya Chen, Sofia Reyes, Liam Wright, and Olivia Bennett. Those pieces remain online under their original bylines. New work goes to the four writers above.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t claim to have personally tested products we haven’t tested. When we say a product is recommended, it’s based on owner review aggregation and spec analysis, not a fabricated lab story.
  • We don’t make medical, ergonomic, or contractor claims. Sleep, back pain, posture, and structural modifications belong with the relevant professional.
  • We don’t recycle product lists from other sites. Each guide is researched from scratch against current availability.
  • We don’t run guest posts, sponsored content, or paid placements.
